How Tamra compares, from the vendors’ own pages.

Growing businesses in the UAE usually weigh a bookkeeping app, accounting software on a PC, or a large suite. Here is what each kind is built for, what the vendors publish about their plans, and where Tamra differs. Plans change, so check the vendor’s page before you decide.

Three kinds of system, and Tamra.

Each column is drawn from the named products’ own pages; Tamra’s from what the app does today.

Built around Accounting software: invoices, bills and VAT. One program on your computer that works offline, with stock, VAT and payroll inside it. Wide coverage, from inventory and warehousing to purchasing, across many companies, languages and currencies. One set of books under sales, purchasing, stock, the till, manufacturing and payroll, in the browser.
How it’s priced By plan. QuickBooks and Zoho Books set how many people each plan covers; Xero prices its UAE plans in US dollars. A subscription that unlocks it for one person, AED 78 a month on its MENA page. No price on the page: you ask for a demo. Per company, with people included. Every module is on every plan.
As you grow Stock and purchase orders come on the higher plans of QuickBooks and Zoho Books; Zoho sells payroll on its own, as Zoho Payroll. A rental can move to a perpetual licence for the difference; reports can also be opened in a browser. Payroll through integration with separate payroll software, and support from a business partner. More companies and people with each plan, up to unlimited companies on Premium, with group reports set up for you.

What the vendors publish.

A few facts from each vendor’s own page for the UAE or the region, as they read on the day. We’ve left out what we couldn’t check.

Tamra, in the same terms.

  • Priced per companyStarter is AED 299 a month for one company and three people, billed yearly; Business AED 799 for up to three companies and ten; Premium from AED 2,400 for unlimited companies and 25. Prices are also shown in US dollars.

  • PayrollPayroll runs with payslips, the UAE end-of-service calculator and a WPS salary file, in every plan.
  • UAE VATThe VAT 201 return box by box, a CSV for EmaraTax and the FTA audit file.
  • Your customersA portal where they see their invoices and statement, approve quotations and pay by card.
  • Where it runsIn the browser, on a computer or a phone.

When something else may suit you better.

Tamra isn’t the right choice for everyone. These are the cases we’d tell you about at a demo.

  • You only need invoices and a bank feed.A bookkeeping app is the simpler choice, and you can move to Tamra when stock, staff or a second company arrive.
  • You want the VAT return filed from the software.Tamra prepares the VAT 201 figures and a CSV, and you enter them in EmaraTax yourself. TallyPrime and Zoho Books say they upload or file it directly.
  • Your bank must take the payroll file as it is.Tamra’s WPS salary file is made for you to upload to your bank’s portal; it hasn’t been validated by a bank.
  • You rely on an app marketplace.Tamra connects through its REST API and webhooks, and through card payments, WhatsApp and email built in, not through a marketplace of add-ons.
  • You want an app from the phone’s app store. There isn’t one: on a phone, Tamra runs in the browser.

Compare it on your own figures.

Bring a quotation, a bill and a payroll month to the demo, and see them through Tamra from start to finish.
